Six industry standards previously approved and released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology took effect on July 1, 2026. These include standards such as "Pre-mixed Metal Powders for Superabrasive Products," covering raw materials, products, and testing procedures for superabrasive products. With the transition from publication to implementation, unified guidelines have been established for raw material composition, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and labeling and packaging.
The continuous refinement of abrasives and abrasive tool standards is closely tied to evolving product structures within the industry. Traditional standards primarily focused on establishing uniform rules regarding abrasive material type, particle size, hardness, structure, and basic safety performance. However, with the development of industries such as CNC machining, precision manufacturing, new energy vehicles, semiconductors, photovoltaics, consumer electronics, and advanced ceramics, abrasive tool products are increasingly categorized according to processing materials, equipment conditions, and surface quality requirements.
Diamond grinding heads used in touchscreen glass processing have now been separately included in industry standards, reflecting a shift from general product classification toward terminal process-specific specifications. Materials such as glass, wafers, hard alloys, ceramics, and composites differ significantly in hardness, brittleness, and thermal sensitivity. The same abrasive tool may exhibit different grinding efficiency and service life under varying machine speeds, feed rates, and cooling conditions. As product standards become more detailed, the correlation between technical specifications and real-world processing scenarios becomes clearer.
Corundum grit sand is typically classified based on standard sieve mesh sizes; however, even products with identical particle size grades may still vary in particle size distribution, proportion of base particles, coarse and fine particle content, bulk density, magnetic impurities, and particle shape. These differences can affect tool compaction density, binder usage, cutting sharpness, and the mode of particle shedding during use. With an improved standard system, abrasive evaluation will increasingly emphasize the relationship between particle size distribution and actual performance.
Currently, the abrasives and abrasive tools industry is undergoing a dual phase: revising traditional product standards while expanding into new application-specific standards. New standards continue to cover specific processing areas such as touchscreen glass, while technical documentation for conventional and coated abrasives is also being updated simultaneously. Industry competition is gradually shifting from comparisons based solely on product names and individual performance indicators to comprehensive evaluations involving raw material consistency, process control, testing capabilities, and end-use processing outcomes.
